Welsh National Opera Schools' Concert (Mayflower Theatre) - KS2

  • Mayflower Theatre 22-26 Commercial Road Southampton SO15 1GE United Kingdom (map)

Themed around the wonders of Greek and Roman mythology and hosted by Elin Llwyd, this free event combines famous masterpieces with unique discoveries performed by the WNO Orchestra and guest soloists. The high-energy "Can-Can" by Offenbach offers an instant, joyful connection for young listeners, while Beethoven's selections from Prometheus deliver a cinematic, superhero-style thrill that resonates with those new to the genre.

The program also features the characterful and visual "Ballo de Orsi" ('Dance of the Bears'), which brings a playful spirit to the venue. Its narrative energy encourages pupils to visualize movement and story, creating an immersive and entertaining musical journey.

Through its mythological focus and engaging repertoire, this relaxed concert aims to leave a lasting impression on every child, sparking a lifelong interest in creative expression and the arts.  Aligned with national curriculum standards, this project is further supported by a comprehensive free digital resource pack to help teachers integrate the experience into classroom learning both before and after the performance. https://www.mayflower.org.uk/whats-on/wno-schools-concert-2026/
