An intimate, high-impact opera experience that brings music, storytelling and performance directly into school communities. OperaCocktail is OperaUpClose’s fast-moving ‘jukebox opera’ built from iconic music by Mozart, Bizet, Verdi, Puccini, Tchaikovsky and Sondheim. Performed by four world-class musician-actors - 3 singers from the National Opera Studio plus accordion - with elements of Makaton enhancing the visual language of the production, the piece introduces students to opera as a highly entertaining, collaborative and contemporary artform accessible to all. Designed for school halls, studios and flexible learning spaces, a performance of OperaCocktail can be paired with a performance masterclass led by OperaUpClose Artistic Director and professional opera singer Flora McIntosh and is suitable for music, drama and performing arts students. SIOW will be further developing a teaching resource packs for schools to use alongside this performance.
